Welcome to Cooking and Gaming week! I don’t mean gaming as in Nintendo, or Playstation. Although I’m sure a lot of that is happening right now with all the social distancing and quarantining being done. I’m talking about games to play with your family during your Easter celebration. I’ll share some ideas from my family to get you started and we’ll also discuss preparing our holiday meal from what we have on hand. 

Gaming

Since my family really likes the Saran Ball game, I was going to do one one for our Easter celebration this year. If you, like me, had already started buying small items for your Saran ball, you can either save them for your Christmas Saran Ball, or you can go ahead and put it together and mail it to your grandkids along with some Easter goodies. That’s what I’ll be doing. 

Below is a Saran Ball Game that is similar to the one we’ve played before.

My family enjoyed playing some Minute to Win It type games last year and I was preparing to bring some back along with some new ones this year. I’ve listed the ones we’ve used and a few to try below:

Easter Egg Matching Game:

Items needed:

• 20 plastic colored Easter eggs, separated from their other half.
• timer

Rules:

Mix up all of the halves and place in the middle of the table. Set your timer for 1 minute. Everyone must see how many eggs they can match and put together within that time. 

Egg Stack:

Items needed:

• 20 plastic Easter eggs, separated from their other halves
• Timer

Rules:

Place egg halves in the middle of the table. Everyone must see how many egg halves they can stack in 1 minute without the tower falling over. It’s not as easy as it seems.

Peeps Stack

Items needed:

• 6-8 peeps per person
• Timer

Rules:

Set the timer for 1 minute. Each person sees how many peeps they can stack without them falling over. 

Eggs in a Nest

Items needed:

• At least 20 colored plastic Easter eggs per team
• Timer

Rules:

Separate into teams of two. Set the timer for 1 minute. One person stands with a bowl or basket on their head and their teammate stands about 2 feet away. Set the timer for 1 minute. Player without the basket tosses eggs into the basket on their teammate’s head. Whichever team has the most peeps in the basket after 1 minute wins. 

Cooking

As far as cooking, we usually try and cook things ahead so that we can have more time to play games and visit with our family. However, this year, I’m not sure how much we need to actually do ahead in light of what’s going on right now. Our family celebrations are probably going to be those we have in our home. Regardless, checking your pantry and freezer and deciding on what you’re going to fix based on what you already have on hand and can obtain is what needs to be done this week.
