Pumpkin Patch Baby Mitts

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! This pair of mittens are worked on only two needles and they remind me of little pumpkins in the middle of a pumpkin patch. Not only will they look cute at a fall gathering, but they could be made in your favorite team colors and worn to a football game!

So, grab your supplies and whip some up with me!

I used I Love This Yarn worsted weight #4 in 181 Jelly Bean, Crafter’s Secret Big Idea worsted weight #4 in 49 Orange, Size 4 knitting needles (3.5mm), 1/4″ orange ribbon, scissors, measuring tape, yarn needle, and began.

Beginning at the cuff, with the Jelly Bean yarn, CO 29 sts.

Row 1: *K1, P1*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 2: *P1, K1*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 3: Repeat Row 1

Row 4: Repeat Row 2

Row 5: Repeat Row 1

Row 6: Working eyelet row, *k2tog, yo* repeat from * to * across row, ending with yo, k1

Row 7: Repeat Row 1

Row 8: Repeat Row 2

Row 9: Repeat Row 1

Row 10: Repeat Row 2

Row 11: Row 11: k1,  p1, k1, p1, k1, inc, p1, k1, p1, k1, inc, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, inc, k1,  p1, k1, p1, k1, inc, p1, k1, p1, k1, inc . (33)

Beginning with the body of the mitten, add orange yarn and continue in pattern.

Row 12: Attach orange yarn. K2, *sl st as if to p, k3* repeat from * to * across row, ending with k2.

Row 13: p2, *sl st, p3*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 14: Repeat row 12

Row 15: Repeat row 13.

Row 16: Change to Jellybean yarn, k across row.

Row 17: k across row.

Repeat pattern three more times or until body of mitten measures 2 ½” from the cuff, ending with row 15. Break orange yarn.

Row 18: with jellybean yarn, k5, dec, k5, dec, k11, dec, k3, dec k1 (29)

Row 19: k across row.

Row 20: k1, *k2tog, k2* repeat from * to * across row. (22)

Row 21: p across row.

Row 22: k1, *k2tog, k2*, repeat from * to * across row. (17)

Row 23: p across row.

Row 24: k1, k2tog, k1* repeat from * to * across row, ending with k2. (12)

Row 25: p2tog across row. Break yarn, leaving a 10 inch tail for sewing.

Using the yarn tail, thread through yarn needle, pass through remaining loops on needle, tighten and fasten to wrong side of mitten.

With wrong sides of mitten together, sew rows down side of mitten with the mattress stitch.

To finish, thread orange ribbon through eyelet row. Tie into a bow.

Repeat to make other mitten. Enjoy your new mittens!!
