10 Most Needed Accessories for crochet
Here are the items most needed to complete your next crochet project!
- No one likes to be in the middle of a project and realize they are missing an important item (like scissors).
- You might be thinking, that’s silly, who would forget to grab their scissors? Me. That’s who would forget to grab their scissors. So now I keep a notions bag just for crocheting . I have listed all the things I have in that bag below. Now I just have to remember to grab the notions bag! 😂
What causes us to have to get up and find a needed item for our crochet project?
- Don’t you hate it when you just get nice and comfy as you settle in before the TV to begin (or pick up) your current crochet project and then realize you forgot to grab blank before you sat down?
- Dang it! Where are those scissors?!
Why do we forget to grab all of our needed items before we sit down?
- Well, I can’t speak for all of us, but some of us are getting older…
- It never seemed to matter how much I tried to think of all the things I might need to complete my project, I always seemed to forget something. Stitch markers, tapestry needle, SCISSORS…
- And then one day I had a great idea. A notions bag!
10 needed items to put in a crochet notions bag

Scissors
- Definitely a needed item in your bag
- It doesn’t matter what they look like, as long as they will cut yarn
- I personally like to use these clippers with a cover.
Stitch markers
- These are especially handy while working in the round.
- I like this style, but anything will work. Ive found that these hold up well. The smaller, harder plastic ones have snapped in two on me.
- I’ve seen people use paper clips and even a small piece of yarn to mark the beginning of rows. Use whatever works for you.
Tapestry or yarn needle
- Who likes to weave in their ends? Not me. But it has to be done. And when it does, a yarn needle works best.
- You want a blunt pointed needle like this if you don’t want to poke yourself constantly. At least that’s what happens if I use a sharp needle to do this.
- I bought this set. It really comes in handy to have a bent needle.

pen
- You never know when you need to write down something or keep track of your rows (I use tally marks)
- Make sure it is a working pen!
Small Pad of paper
- This goes along with the pen. You need something to write those tally marks on.
- It also comes in handy if you need to write down what family members want before you ‘make’ dinner by calling something in. 😉

Stitch counter
- If you would rather use a stitch counter you would want to add one of those also.
- Amazon has quite a few to pick from such as these.
Highlighter
- I use a highlighter to mark which size I am following on a clothing pattern.
- I also use it to highlight written rows for C2C graphs I’ve finished.

Gauge/ruler
- These are a necessity whenever you are checking your gauge. Or need to check the size of your hook.
- I like this one.
- I inherited this one.
Measuring tape
- Sometimes you need to check the width of an item, such as a blanket, and your gauge ruler isn’t long enough.
- I use a cheap retractable one that I got from Hobby Lobby. Amazon has some that look similar here.
post it notes
- I like to use 3 inch post its to keep my place on a pattern.
- This comes in handy especially on older patterns that have a lot of information on each row.
- Amazon has some here.
Conclusion
- Never forget your scissors or (stitch markers, etc.) for your crochet project again!
- Keep your crochet notions bag with your current project to alleviate your stress!
- What do you think of having a notions bag? Will you make one? Do you already have one? Let me know if you do and what you have in yours in the comments.
